'Potato' Map of London During World War II, urban planners John Forshaw and Patrick Abercrombie outlined a vision for London's post-war spatial development. Their plan envisioned neighbourhoods as a collection of self-sufficient islands, each with its own character, separated by green spaces and infrastructure. Little has come of this due to spectacular growth in car traffic.
